Buttons is a camera with no lens, no film, no CCD. What you do get is a black box with one big red button on the top (from an Agfamatic 901 if you must know).

Instead of taking a photograph, you capture a moment. Inside the box is a SonyEricsson K750i running custom software. It records the exact time you press the button and then sends the info up to the Blinks and Buttons servers.

A script continually trawls Flickr until it finds a photograph taken, anywhere in the world, at the exact moment you pressed your “shutter release” and sends it back to the phone. This can take a while, but when it’s ready the pic just pops up on the LCD screen.

There’s something very Zen about this. On the one hand, you are looking at a picture from a total stranger. On the other, you are tied together by a moment in time. There is that single thing you have in common.
